The Story
Invasion from Outer Space!Â

It’s an ordinary evening at Stargazing Club and the children are awed by incredible views through the telescope. But one of the stars is hurtling nearer – and nearer…Â

An alien spaceship crash-lands in the school field. All the teachers have fallen asleep, and Ursula, Atlas and Orion must handle this on their own. After all, the aliens need help. But they’re awfully slimy, talk in peculiar ways, and they’ve travelled through space for millennia – communication breakdown alert!Â

As the children teach the aliens how to adapt to life on earth, news of The Great Imperial Space Duster reaches them. This terrifying creature sweeps across the universe, sucking up stardust and plotting intergalactic domination – and now it’s after a new flavour: alien slime. The Great Imperial Space Duster has strength and fear on his side, as well as a sneaky and devious onboard computer, but the aliens aren’t facing him alone. He’s up against a formidable force of friendship, teamwork and love.Â

Full synopsis
Act 1 Scene 1Â
The children wake up and head to school, excited for another day of learning with their friends. During the song, there is a snatch of dialogue as the children chat about common school activities. ( WE LOVE SCHOOL)Â

Act 1 Scene 2Â
The Headteacher is in his office preparing for the first meeting of the new Stargazing Club and chatting with the school Office Manager. While he’s looking at the star chart, he thinks he spots a new star, but it’s just a crumb – or is it?Â

Act 1 Scene 3Â
It’s bedtime, but Leo doesn’t want to go to sleep. His older sister Ursula is at Stargazing Club, and he wishes he could grow older enough to join her. His mother tells him that children grow up quickly and he shouldn’t wish away his childhood (SLEEP, BABY, SLEEP). When closing the curtains, she notices a bright new star in the sky. When Leo falls asleep, his teddy is stolen by unseen characters.Â

Act 1 Scene 4Â
An alien spaceship has crash-landed in the school field! The teachers are asleep and no help at all (WE ARE ALIENS). The slimy but friendly aliens approach and greet the children, holding Leo’s teddy. Ursula is furious when she realises that they have stolen her brother’s toy and dislikes the aliens on sight. The aliens explain that their spaceship has run out of its stardust fuel and they are frightened of a danger in the skies.Â

Act 1 Scene 5Â
In the school hall, the aliens are struggling to manage. They don’t know how to sit in chairs and they’ve never seen a table before. The children and aliens decide that they’re going to work together to help the aliens, especially with their biggest threat: the Great Imperial Space Duster, a horrible creature who eats stardust and is the reason that their spaceship has crashed (STARDUST DREAMERS). But Ursula still isn’t convinced. She dislikes the aliens for stealing Leo’s teddy, but eventually they decide to put their differences aside (JUST BE FRIENDLY).Â

Act 1 Scene 6Â
In the sky over the school field, the Great Imperial Space Duster is plotting with his assistant, the wickedly inventive Onboard Computer. The Great Imperial Space Duster complains that the universe is running out of stardust, leaving it with nothing to eat. The Onboard Computer suggests that it tries something slimy. Two aliens appear from behind the crashed space ship. They’ve overheard everything and are terrified that the monster is planning to eat them next. Â

Act 1 Scene 7Â
Back in the school hall, the atmosphere is cheery, when the two aliens who overheard the Great Imperial Space Duster’s plans run in with the terrible news that the creature is approaching with plans to devour the aliens. The aliens are terrified, but the children remind them who they are and all they’ve done (STARDUST DREAMERS REPRISE). They suggest that instead of awaiting attack, they should use up the slime in an enormous slime party – the Slime Time Disco (SLIMETIME DISCO).Â
Â
Act 2 Scene 1Â
The children remind us audience that The Great Imperial Space Duster is going to invade (SAVE OUR SCHOOL!). Ursula and Zelbtrone talk about what the aliens think of the human children, and Ursula is stunned to find that they admire her and her friends. A friendship begins and Ursula explains what love feels like to Zelbtrone (WE’RE REALLY NOT THAT DIFFERENT AT ALL).Â
Characters: Ursula and ZelbtroneÂ

Act 2 Scene 2Â
Out in the school field, the spaceship is nearly fixed, but then the Great Imperial Space Duster appears (I’LL SWEEP AWAY THE UNIVERSE). But as it lands, it crashes and splits open, revealing a tiny creature in the centre of the spaceship, clutching a feather duster, which snaps. The Great Imperial Space Duster is devastated by the damage and begins to cry. Feeling sorry for it, the children offer the creature Leo’s teddy to compensate (JUST BE FRIENDLY REPRISE). The Great Imperial Space Duster is so touched by their kindness that it decides to return all the stardust it has devoured to the universe and vows to spread love instead of fear. It departs.Â

Act 2 Scene 3Â
With the alien’s spaceship repaired, the children call upon the Northern Lights (COSMIC LIGHT) to guide them. They build a runway of candles. The aliens thank the children for teaching them about love and return the teddy to Leo. The aliens say goodbye to the children and remind them that they can always look to the skies to remember the Stardust Dreamers (TAKE A LITTLE DREAM) (CURTAIN CALL).Â
